Day 2- fabulous day! We played ¨The wind is blowing^ ice breaker game. Then, we broke into groups and talked about shopping...can I help you?...Yes, I am looking for a sweater. That kind of conversation.
Then, after lunch, we had a plastic bag for each group and gloves to pick up trash on the way to the mall. These kids took off with picking up garbage. I could hardly believe it. They filled the one bag that was required. Then, they found boxes and more bags in the midst of picking up garbage and filled those. We got to this field that is just disgusting and looks like a dump and I looked at the one kid and said...whoa, I think we would need all week to pick up garbage here...he says, no, more like a month. There is just so much garbage. You just wonder...what would this place look like if we did a massive clean up? If there was a more organized garbage system. If you had someone to pick up the dead dogs! Yes, I am not kidding, dead dogs! Dead dogs complete with maggots. Ew! But, thankfully, no we didn´t have any surprise dead dogs while we were cleaning. In the end, our group had 8 bags of garbage. We dumped the bags in a garbage can, broke out the hand sanitizer then hit the mall for our scavenger hunt.
We had made a list of clues for students to read then take a picture with a digital camara of an item that best fit the description. (This was a knock off of another game I played at church with the youth group...if you are reading this, thank you Tiffany for the idea!). The students LOVED it! They were like a football team charging through the mall. In fact, two teams got kicked out of the mall...not because they were running people over, but because it is illegal to take pictures in the mall...I was having flashbacks to when we were kids and my Dad would have us take pictures inside gas stations, ha ha.
When we finished we came back to school, stopping at the grocery store where we had another list (in English) of things for students to find. They were buying things for our cooking day, which is tomorrow. They were so funny too because all the lists were parts of three different recipes, so they were running around looking in each other´s baskets trying to figure out what we were going to make. ha ha...they crack me up!
We did a little recap and had students tell something the learned or something they enjoyed. They all said they enjoyed working as a team to clean up garbage and taking pictures.
So, day 2 went GREAT!

You're welcome. :) Why do kids love digital photo scavenger hunts so much??? Craziness.
