Day 3
We played two truths and a lie, which was fun. Each student needed to write out two things that were true and then one lie. They read them to the class and we decided which one was the lie. Some of them were good liars. :)
The big trip for the day was going to the farm. What a fun time that was! I think we the teachers had more fun than that students! I was looking at my pictures on the bus ride home and laughing outloud!
On the farm, which was set up as a petting zoo sort of place (however, I don´t think anyone really tried to pet anything), so not just any random farm. But, they had cows, pigs, some sort of hairy pig (which I thought was a warthog for a moment but it was way too big to be one), emus, sheep, ostriches, goats, ducks, a llama, geese, a donkey, and whatever else.
They had a little museum at the farm too. The museum was funny...it had an old radio, computer monitor, and some other random household things that were old, but not antique old. Then, this is the wierd and kind of gross part...they had all these glass jars with miscarried animals inside of them (in whatever preserving liquid they need). Random. Wierd. Gross.
We had some time to kill, so we played duck, duck, gray duck. Then, we played sharks and minnows. We had lots of good laughs with that!
THEN, we milked a cow! I had never done that before! It was milking time and they have machines, but they let us give it a go. Luckily they have a little ^kick shield ^ otherwise I would have been kicked! ha ha! And, luckily I had climbed back up the stairs before the cow decided to pee all over the place! Gosh, that was like a waterfall!
We went back to the restuarant area and waiting around. We were waiting to taste the milk (I guess...I didn´t realize this at first). As we were waiting, one of the kids, who competes in Cueca competitions tried to give some instructions then just danced with one of the girls so we could see how it went. Cueca is the national dance of Chile. Come September 18th, independence day, I need to know how to do the Cueca... It is a really cute little dance...it is a very innocent flirting kind of dance.
In this same area...there were stuffed animals. Not the cute colorful plush toys, but the dead animal stuffed animals. The display of these animals was rather unique and I couldn´t hold back my laughter, in fact I am laughing to myself thinking about it right now. First, there was this calf that was in a lying down position, like it was just waking up from a nap...it wasn´t on the floor though...it was on a chair...a chair in which only the half of the body actually fit on! Don´t worry, I have a picture! Then, you know how people mount the heads of animals? Well, they had a deer and a goat, but instead of having them on a back board and on the wall...they were just the two separate heads sitting on two different chairs! It was just so random and so funny...I was almost in tears laughing. One of the students asked me if we had these things in the US. I just nodded my head, but I couldn´t say hardly a thing because I was laughing to hard...then, I finally had a moment to explain to him that, yes, we have these things, but usually put them on the wall, not in a chair. He laughed a little bit with me. ´
So, it was a good day at the farm! Oh geez, too, I had some of the best bread since I have been here...it is bread of the campo...the country...it reminded me of Grammie´s rolls. The slapped on some butter and cheese! Aye! Tastey!
