More food (an incomplete entry...but important one..)

Well, this week was my week to say good bye to the whole school at the acto, or the little program that happens every week. I got up to give my speech and found myself unable to talk because the tears just wouldn´t stop coming. Finally, at one point, everyone started clapping, probably just to break the silence. When I was finally ready to talk, or read my speech, everything went fine.

I spent the day a bit sad and thinking about how hard it would be to leave. I started to wonder if maybe my time here was just beginning as opposed to just ending. There is so much that can be done here with English. Plus, it is hard to leave everyone. I had even gone to the education office to talk to the director about jobs for next year. I even had a friend ask offer to help by asking some people she knew about jobs.

Today, however, after the fact, I feel as though the transition has really begun....I am not holding on so much to what I know now, as much as just enjoying the moment because I know I won´t be back, at least not for a while. I have grown more comfortable with the idea of leaving and returning to the United States....maybe because I am not one to draw out good byes and now that I have gotten the big one out of the way...I am just coasting to the end. Enjoying the moments.

SO, if you don´t hear from me for a while...this would be why.

Some of you may be wondering about the elections and how people here viewed them...well, first of all, i am happy and hopeful with the election results. I didn´t vote because I was a bit lazy and never filled out the paper work to vote in Chile...but, I had faith the best candidate would win.

People in Chile, the teachers, still think we live in slavery and find it incredible that the ¨negrito¨ won. I have had many many race related conversations since my first day here...it is amazing the perspectives of other cultures. As I watch TV at night, I have been taking more notes on what Chileans watch that is related to the United States, especailly since my students seem to think that anyone from the US with blonde hair and blue eyes is rich. This has come up more than once, so I have been trying to tune into the things that would create this image for them...like movies and MTV. My thoughts on MTV alone is simple...it is a sick representation of what the US is. I enjoy watching it at times, mostly just for a good laugh, but I also live in the US and know we are not limited to the mentalities represented on0 MTV.

They watch alot of terror movies here...they love terror. They have the regular movies we have...in english and spanish...they get alot of practice, or listening opportunities to english through movies and music.
