Motorcycles...but no Frisbee´s

So, here I am in Santiago to get my passport stamped. I had a message saying I needed to come today and I would get my passport back tomorrow. But, after I got to the training center and talked to the person with the program, she said I would turn my in tomorrow. So why am I hear today? I don´t know. But, I needed a day to think, as I was in a bit of a funk yesterday. So, I decided to continue my quest for a frisbee....that and an electronic dictionary (I had to think of something I might actually find).

There is a walking street with all kinds of stores on either side and some big department stores. Last weekend I was told that Farabella would have Frisbees. So, that was the first place I looked. They didn´t have frisbees.

I walked in and out of stores. I started thinking maybe I needed a new pair of jeans, or maybe I should buy a sweater of some sort, as I have been wearing the one my host mom lent me for the past, well...since I got here. :)

The store I went into, I don´t even remember which one I was in, was something like Macy´s...a downtown Macy´s where they have several levels. First level perfume and shoes, second, womens clothing, third mens, forth, sports, and then about three other floors. They didn´t have escalators, so I walked up all the stairs to the sports floor, as I got to thinking, maybe, just maybe, they would have a frisbee. Well, the first thing they had on the floor were motorcycles. Yes, motorcycles on the forth floor. Then, I noticed tennis rackets, ping pong paddles, stair masters, soccer balls (futbols), swimming suits....surely, one would think they would have a frisbee! Well, they didn´t. Can you beleive that? They had motorcycles, but not frisbees!

I went into one last store to ask about frisbees and the guy told me it was a summer thing. Then, I asked him how much they would cost. He said they would be 990 pesos. Now, 990 pesos is about $2. These wouldn´t be official frisbees, just the cheapies that don´t fly so good...at least for Ultimate Frisbee. Actually, some cheap frisbees are good...but if they are like the ones we had found last week...they aren´t going to be good.

So, from there, I switched to my newer, more reasonable, quest to find an electronic dictionary...you know, they kind that looks like a calculator. I found it in about the 8th store I went to, gracias to the guy who so kindly told me in nice and easy to understand spanish! He even tried talking to me in English!

I bought the cheaper dictionary, as there were a bunch ranging from $100-$200. Mine was the $40 version and...I must say, you get what you pay for...I should have splurged for a better one...this one only has basic words and seems to be missing some words I need....I was trying to search random words while I was in the store, but I couldn´t seem to think of the ones I use, but never know...argh

**ok, sidenote...there is a guy in the internet cafe that is talking about someone sticking their finger up some guys ass to make him fart....it was kind of funny and random, but really, this guy is starting to tick me off....shut up already***

Ok, so my dicitonary isn´t all that great...I typed in sew and it came up with no words. Then I typed in knit...again, no words available. Then I would type in something like tomar (which I know is to take) and it would give me phrases like...Vas a tomar su medicina (are you going to take your medicine)? Uh...what?

Aye...well, it is time for me to go to bed. I am staying at the hostel with the 4 month volunteers and I have met some very nice people. There are about 4 people from Minnesota.

OH! That just reminded me. So, last week I had my winter camp. The guy that was our leader, Geno, works with the ministry and lives here in Santiago. So, I had called him because I needed to give him some information and, well, I happened to be a bit turned around in Santiago too, so I wanted to make sure I wasn´t wandering around any longer than I needed to. But, then I told him we should meet up for a drink or something later. He says, sure. So, he calls me this afternoon to say he has to teach a Spanish class and wouldn´t have time to meet for a drink but that he was in the area to say hi. So, I walked over to where he was and say hello. Then he goes on to tell me that there were about 3-4 Minnesotans in the new group of volunteers. I said, oh yah? Great! Then he goes on to say that after they said they were from Minnesota he gave a nice Üff Da¨ha ha! I said, oh ya? What did they say? He said they just laughed and thought that was great. ha ha! I love it! Spreading Uff Da around the world!! :)

But, I talked with some volunteers for a while. It was fun. Most of the Minnesotans were from Minneapolis area.

Alright...well, I think I am going to go to bed. Ta ta for now...
