Burning Wood

Many nights I walk home wondering if I enhaled a campfire on the way home. I can taste it in my mouth and smell it in my clothes. The smell seems to fade quickly, so maybe it is just in my head.

Here, burning wood and coal are the way to go. I pass by houses selling espina (coal) on my walk. The other day I went with Ana to the woodpile, which looks just about like how it sounds. There are a couple of organized piles, but the rest is a giant pile. They have a big basket, like a giant laundry basket, which the fill with small logs. They carry it over to the scale....the scale is old fashioned to me...an arm to which they add discs until they are balanced. Nothing digital about it. Then they carry the basket to your car, pile it in, and you take it home.

I still have yet to figure out how much wood we burn...as it seemed as though two days later it was gone.
